Mrs. Leah Thompson
I am Leah Thompson, school and community relations-communications coordinator for North Adams Community Schools.
My husband, Ryan, and I both work for North Adams [kind of, anyway!]. Ryan is the assistant director of special education for Adams Wells Special Services Cooperative [AWSSC] - which means he is a North Adams employee but he [and his team] provides special education services and support to all six school corporations in our bi-county area.
My time with North Adams Community Schools dates back to 2006, when I, too, worked for AWSSC and provided services much like I do currently to all six school corporations in Adams and Wells Counties. Following the 2009-2010 school year, I took a short retreat into the healthcare and corporate industries before returning here in 2016.
I am excited that my career has come full circle and that I am here among our North Adams family again!
When I am not here, Ryan and I stay busy running our village's recreation association. We organize spring/summer and fall activities for more than 600 children, ages 4-15, on an annual basis. It's a second full-time job for us during these months/seasons but it is rewarding to see these expansive and ever-growing opportunities being made for area children, including our own.
In between managing our athletics fields and grounds, managing our concession stand, assigning umpires, educating coaches, and building fundamentals and skills in young athletes, we are chasing our three boys around [the country even, sometimes]. All three of our boys play recreational and/or competitive travel baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and running. Ryan and I coach summer baseball, and I coach elementary/middle school boys basketball. It's safe to say we like sports. A lot!
Being a part of North Adams Community Schools is both rewarding and gratifying. Every-single-day, I am awarded with the opportunity to witness the amazing things happening in our buildings, classrooms [and even inside of our students] - and then I get to share those stories with our school community. It is a beautiful thing. We have amazing staff and teachers doing even more amazing things with the incredible group of students that we have the honor and privilege to serve. Stories that I love and live to tell....
.... So any time you have something great happening here, contact me. It is my joy and privilege to share the great things that are happening here in our district with others! :)
